Really good tips to control stress
5 really quick tips for handling stress better
1. Take care of your stress positively. It’s easy to react to problems by having a glass or two at the end of the day or smoking more, but in the long term this doesn’t help your body cope with stress and can contribute to a worsening of your health over time.
2. Learn to breathe properly. By taking deep breaths your mind clears and your body is forced to physically relax.
3. Relax regularly. Nothing is more important in your diary than the time you take to positively relax so build in time for some feel-good activity you love and know will help you switch off – music, dancing, playing with your dog/kids – anything you enjoy which will let your mind focus on other things rather than your problems.
4. Find someone to talk to. Don’t waste your energy by keep feelings bottled up and your mind whirring endlessly about your problem without result. That will just wear you out and not gain you anything. Someone you trust may offer some insight you hadn’t thought of, may have been through a similar experience, or may know where you can go to find support and advice to solve the situation.
5. Remember - you are never alone in any situation, no matter how bad. Someone else has been there before and survived. Everything passes. No matter how hard life may seem at the moment, in 6 months things can be very different and so much better. Always have hope.
